Where the Hell Did that Come From???

Before you send the hate mail, reader discretion is advised. This list is for reference and education only and is not intended as an endorsement to use racial slurs. Most of us have heard many of these slurs many times, however, some of these slurs are so obscure it makes you wonder.

General Asian Slurs »

Banana	Yellow on the outside, white on the inside. An Asian who has lost or forgone their roots.
Boat-People	Applies to any peoples who took a boat to immigrate to this country.
Bruised Banana	Yellow on the outside, black on the inside. An Asian who acts Black.
Buddhahead	Many Asians are Buddhists.
Bug-Eater	Some Asians eat bugs, such as locusts or grasshoppers.
Can'ardly	Originating in Australia, it means "can hardly see."
Chinaman	Someone of Chinese descent. Also used to describe any Asian, since non-Asians cannot tell the difference.
Chinese	Used to describe any Asian, since non-Asians cannot tell the difference.
Dog-Muncher	Some Asians eat dogs, as seen in "Faces of Death."
FOB	"Fresh Off the Boat." Applies mainly to Asian immigrants.
Honky/Honkie	Asians from Hong Kong.
Jaundy Boy	Asians are considered to have yellow skin, just like with Jaundice.
Lemonhead	Used to describe Asian skin color.
Meat Pie	Yellow on the outside, black on the inside. An Asian who acts Black.
Nikon	Asian tourists (especially Japanese) typically take a lot of photographs.
Nine Iron	Used to describe stereotypical Asian "slanted" eyes, as a nine iron club has a degree of loft.
Nuprin	Used to describe Asian skin color and stature, small and yellow.
Oreo	Shortened meaning of Oriental.
Pancake	Used to describe facial characteristics.
Panhead	Used to describe facial characteristics.
Ping-Pang	Used to describe the sounds of Asian languages to non-Asians.
Pointy-Head	Used to describe Asians, probably because of their pointed bamboo hats. Made popular by J. W. Pepper in "The Man with the Golden Gun" in reference to Asians in Bangkok.
Powerpoint	Originating in Australia, where electric outlets are called power points; believed to resemble a line drawing of an Asian face.
Rice-Eater	Used to describe Asians by their diets; rice as the staple food.
Rice-Paddy	Used to describe Asians by how they grow rice in Asia.
Rice-Picker	The Asian version of the slur used against Blacks, "Cotton Picker."
SBH	Used to describe an Asian physical feature, meaning "Straight Black Hair."
Slant	Used to describe facial characteristics, specifically the eyes.
Slantey-eye'd	Used to describe facial characteristics, specifically the eyes.
Slit	Used to describe facial characteristics, specifically the eyes.
Slope/Slopehead	Originally used to describe Vietnamese people based on head shape/characteristics, but later was acceptable for use on all Asians.
Squint/Squinty	Used to describe facial characteristics, specifically the eyes.
Table Face	Used to describe facial characteristics.
Tape Head	Used to describe facial characteristics, specifically the eyes, as if their eyes were taped to the back of the head.
Twinkie	Yellow on the outside, white on the inside. An Asian who has lost or forgone their roots.
WOG	Meaning either "White-Oriental Gentleman" or "Worthy-Oriental Gentleman."
Yellow-Devil	Used to describe the Japanese by U.S. Servicemen. Later adapted to use against all Asians.
Yellow	Used to describe Asian skin color.
Yellow Monkey	Used to describe Asian skin color in combination with Asians as a monkey race. Originally used against Vietnamese people, but later adapted for use against all Asians.
Yolk	Used to describe Asian skin color, as in an egg yolk.
Zipperhead	Originated by U.S. troops in the Korean War. Used to describe Asians shot in the head, whose heads would split as if unzipped.

Chinese-specific Slurs »

Bamboo Coon	The Chinese version of a slur used against Blacks.
Chale	Used by Hispanics, primarily in Mexico, referring to the Chinese.
Chigger	Used for a Chinese person who acts Black; also refers to those who are half Chinese, half Black.
Chink	Shortened/reorganized form of Chinese.
Chino	Spanish for Chinese.
Chonky	The blending of Chinese-Honky or Chink-Honky.
Choo-Choo	Used to describe Chinese immigrants who built the Pacific railroad.
Cookie	Refers to Chinese people as in fortune cookies.
Coolie	Overheard ku-li, meaning menial worker, by whites. Used in reference to Chinese railroad workers.
Hop Sing	Used to refer to Chinese people, popularized because of the Chinese cook on "Bonanza."
Kung-Fu	Used to refer to Chinese people, popularized due to the Chinese martial arts.
Mook	Origins in mook jonk, a wooden dummy used for kung fu.
Rail-Hopper	Used to describe Chinese immigrants who built the Pacific railroad.

Filipino-specific Slurs »

Book-Book	Used mainly in Hawai'i. Used to describe the sounds of Filipino language to non-Filipinos.
Chinese Wetback	The Filipino version of a slur used against Mexicans. Filipinos have a Spanish and Chinese heritage, also with Hispanic surnames and heavy Catholic influence.
Flip	Shortened/reorganized form of Filipino.
Seagull	Used to refer to Filipinos.

Indian-specific Slurs »

Apu	Used to refer to Indian people, popularized because of the Indian character, Apu, on the "Simpsons."
Bhrempti	Used to describe Indian people due to the sound of a particular Indian word.
Cow-Kisser	Used in reference to the sacred status of cows in India.
Curry-Muncher	Used to describe Indians by a food in their diet, curry.
Diaper-Head	Refers to Indians by the turbans worn.
Dot-Head	Used to describe Indian people by the caste marking (dot) on their foreheads.
Hadji	Used to refer to Indian people, popularized because of the Indian character on the cartoon, "Johnny Quest."
Higger	Used for an Indian (Hindu) person who acts Black.
Napkin Nigger	The Indian version of a slur used against Blacks.
Patel	Means Innkeeper. Originally used to refer to wealthy Indians who came to Western countries.
Punjab	Originated by the British to describe natives of the Punjab region. Made popular from Indian character from "Little Orphan Annie."
Push-Button	Used to describe Indian people by the caste marking (dot) on their foreheads.
Rag-Head	Refers to Indians by the turbans worn.
Towel-Head	Refers to Indians by the turbans worn.
WOG	Meaning "Warden on Guard", it originated with the British.

Japanese-specific Slurs »

Harbor-Bomber	Used to refer Japanese-Americans because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Jap	Shortened form of Japanese.
Nip/Nipper	Used to refer to Japanese people by shortening the word for Japan (Nippon).
Yoko	Used to refer to Japanese people, popularized by Beatles' fans upset by the band's break up.

Korean-specific Slurs »

Buckethead	Used to describe Korean people based on head shape/characteristics, specifically large heads.
Gook	Two possible origins: 1) shortened from the Korean, Hanguk (meaning, Korea); or 2) misinterpretation of the question "Mi Guk?" (meaning, American?).
Shovel-Head	Used to describe Korean people based on head shape/characteristics, specifically heads shaped like shovels.

Mixed Race Slurs »

Bumblebee	Used to describe either an Asian-Black child, or mixed race Asian-Black person.
Chinig	Used to refer to a half Chinese, half Black person, by combining "Chink" and "Nigger."
Chink-a-billy	Used to refer to a half Chinese, half white (hillbilly) person.
Heinz	Used to describe any racially mixed person, as in the ketchup varieties.
Mutt	Used to describe any racially mixed person, as in dogs of mixed breed.
Pinky Poops	Used to refer to a half Vietnamese, half Black person; especially used when Black soldiers coupled with Vietnamese women.
Spink	Used to refer to a half Chinese, half Mexican person, by combining "Chink" and "Spic."

Polynesian-specific Slurs »

Island Nigger	The Polynesian version of a slur used against Blacks.
Jandel	Used to refer to all Polynesians as many wear jandels.
Lava Lamp	Refers to Pacific Islanders or anyone in the volcanic circle, especially Hawaiians.
Moke	Used in reference to Hawaiians by non-Hawaiian residents of Hawai'i. Used in similar meanings of how "nigger" is for Blacks: big, fat, dumb, etc.
Pineapple Nigger	The Hawaiian version of a slur used against Blacks.

Vietnamese Slurs »

Charlie	Originated during the Vietnam War. The word started with "Viet Cong," was shortened to the initials VC, which in the military alphabet is "Victor Charlie."
Dink	Originally used to refer to the North Vietnamese, popularized in "Apocalypse Now" and "Platoon."
Gook	Originally used against Korean people, but later adopted for the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
Gookaniese	Used to refer to the Vietnamese language by their slur-name.
Mung	Used to refer to Vietnamese refugees; originated from the word "Hmong," mountain people inhabiting parts of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.
Nammer	Used to refer to Vietnamese people from the shortened version of "Nam," referring to Vietnam.
Tunnel Digger	Used to refer to Vietnamese people from the foxholes and tunnels dug in Vietnam that the North Vietnamese soliders used to kill American soldiers.
Uncle Ben's Boys	Used to refer to North Vietnamese soldiers because of the rice patties/fields.
